While SpaceX and the Artemis programme have captured public attention, recent years have also seen a revitalised interest in the serious business of space, and the potential it holds to solve many pressing socio-economic issues on earth. These span applications from satellite positioning systems and satellite broadband communications, through solar power harvesting and lunar mineral exploration, to climate change and environmental monitoring. Global spending in the development of the space sector itself is now approaching $100 billion, with some estimates suggesting that the global space industry could generate revenue of more than $1 trillion by 2040. Client PR and marketing campaigns often focus on the science behind space applications and their benefits to users, engaging potential technology partners, academics, investors and the public, who all play a role in turning the opportunity into a reality.
Space sector propositions can sometimes be scientifically and technically complex, and PR and marketing programmes often require the creation of simplified but compelling messaging for a broad base of target audiences. We create the messaging that is crucial to making the connection between undoubtedly brilliant but sometimes abstract science, and the tangible, real-world benefits it enables. This forms the bedrock of our campaigns, allowing clients to connect with a broad ecosystem of partners, gain market (and public) adoption and support, and attract vital investment. We are members of the Space Communications Alliance, the world’s first marketing communications network for the space sector.
CCgroup’s Deep Tech lead, Duncan McKean, worked on the ATSR-2 space instrument for sea temperature monitoring, among many other interesting project roles while a technician in the University of Oxford’s physics department. This experience allows him to bring a powerful and rare talent for combining an understanding of scientific principles with the capability to communicate them through PR & marketing.
Client campaigns have included the launch of Bullitt Group’s SMS-style two-way messaging over GEO and LEO satellites, programmes for “space-based telecoms” firm Lynk, and support for BT’s role in trials of High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) aircraft, to deliver 4G and 5G mobile coverage in hard-to-reach areas, along with enhancing industrial operations and transport systems. Since most applications are unique, our PR & marketing programmes in the space sector are built from the ground up. Executed through multiple channels including media relations, industry events such as Space-Comm and CYSAT, social & digital media and other stakeholder relations, we ensure the right messages reach the right people at the right time, propelling future opportunity for clients.
