Syniverse Reports Messaging Surge

Syniverse Technologies says it achieved a new messaging traffic milestone in the second quarter of 2010, as consumers worldwide turned to their mobile devices with even greater frequency to text and tweet with friends and family, share pictures and video, manage their financial accounts, and interact with their favorite brands. Syniverse moved an average of 1.6bn mobile messages per day in the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 23 per cent from a year ago.

Google Instant promises live search results

Google has sped up its internet search engine by launching a new product, Google Instant, that displays results as soon as users type in queries. "This is search at the speed of thought. It represents a quantum leap in search," the company said. Previously Google's suggested search terms and did not reveal results until the "enter" key was hit or the "search" button was clicked.

Vodafone sells China Mobile stake for £4.3bn

Vodafone Group PLC, the world's biggest mobile operator by revenue, said late Tuesday it sold its 3.2% stake in China Mobile Ltd. for GBP4.3 billion before tax and transaction costs, the first of many expected minority shareholding divestments. The U.K.-based company also said it will continue its commercial and technology cooperation with China Mobile, despite the divestment.

Telecom market revenues in Uganda to reach $1.23bn in 2015: Pyramid

The telecom market in Uganda generated $638m in 2009 and is estimated to grow at CAGR of 11.5% and reach $1.23bn by 2015, according to a new report from Pyramid Research. The Uganda's fixed broadband services is projected to join the mobile segment as new undersea cables land in the coasts of East Africa and the terrestrial fiber rings start reaching the country.

MasterCard MoneySend like PayPal for BlackBerry

It's no surprise that everyone wants in on PayPal's successful payments strategy, and MasterCard is no exception. On Wednesday, the credit card giant launched a version of its MoneySend mobile app for BlackBerry. Similar to the iPhone version, MasterCard MoneySend for Blackberry can settle peer-to-peer balances by sending money to friends and family, and purchasing goods from an informal vendor. The app's tool let you request cash (via text message) that others owe you and receive credit and debit card payments made to your account.

Justin Bieber 'takes up three per cent' of Twitter

The social networking site has previously claimed that Bieber, a singer who shot to fame on YouTube, is mentioned 60 times a second on its website, which publishes 65 million tweets every day. Now Dustin Curtis, an American blogger, has claimed that three in every 100 tweets can be traced back to Bieber.
