Microsoft is releasing a test version of its free security software on Tuesday in the US, Brazil and Israel, aiming for broader adoption than it had with a previous paid-for product.  Dubbed Microsoft Security Essentials, the program will compete with free distributions from the likes of AVG Technologies and Panda Software, as well as a plethora of more extensive fee-based security ware. To head off antitrust objections, Microsoft will not bundle the program with Windows 7 or other products.

Four executives from Google, the internet search company, are to appear before a Milan court tomorrow in a trial that could have significant implications for internet privacy and the future of video-sharing websites. An Italian prosecutor has laid criminal charges against the four, who include David Drummond, Google’s chief legal officer, and Peter Fleischer, its top privacy executive, after footage of a disabled boy being bullied by other boys was broadcast on Google Video.

T-Mobile USA will begin selling a new smartphone using Google Inc’s Android operating software in August, facing off against high-end devices such as Apple’s latest iPhone and the Palm Pre. T-Mobile said the myTouch 3G phone is a slimmer and more advanced version of the G1, which was also made by Taiwan’s HTC Corp and based on Android technology.
